Hidden Gem Technical Services was created as the business entity to support technical computing and entertainment endeavors by it's founder, Gordon Cunningham. About Gordon Cunningham
Gordon has over 27 years in the Information Technology business, and has been an amateur and semi-pro musician even longer. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science in 1982 from the University of Southern Maine, where he exercised his programming and hardware skills while working at the college radio station and playing in bands.
In the early 80's he obtained both Commodore and IBM-compatible computing systems that he used for relational database application programming for small businesses. He also worked on real-world modeling systems for military contract work, creating computerized trainers for military personnel. He supported several major accounting packages for business financial management.
Gordon constantly rose through the ranks at various companies over the years, becoming interested in applications support, hardware and networking, network security, and holding such positions as traveling Technician, Support Engineer and Manager, Webmaster, Network Administrator, Business Owner, Consultant, Network Engineer, Systems Manager, Sr Manager of IS, Sr Security Analyst, etc. He has set up several network and server monitoring, management, and reporting systems, with event notification, and network intrusion detection and prevention systems, as well.
Gordon is also interested in home automation, theater arts, and electronics. Naturally, he has gravitated toward digital recording and related technologies. He has the unique ability to modify, troubleshoot, and repair both hardware and software, as well as understand the business implications and cost factors involved. He has managed multi-million dollar projects such as world-wide Wide Area Network rollouts and put together methodologies for information technology management in times of heavy parent company acquisition thrust. He knows the importance of applying computing power and information systems as a cost- and work-saving enabling technology for businesses, and does it right the first time.
As far as musical abilities, Gordon learned to play violin (with excellent ear training) at a young age. He played in a grammar school orchestra and often was a soloist in recitals. From there he progressed to other instruments as they were made available, from clarinet, bass clarinet, guitar, bass guitar, drums, etc. He also sang lead and backup harmonies as he developed his voice. He has dabbled with keyboards and synths, accordion, and many other instruments. Gordon has been in entertainment most of his life, whether playing and singing in bands, running live sound or lighting, putting together a radio show, or being in live stage presentations including singing, dancing and acting.
Gordon is probably more at home behind the curtains, however, working out technical details of a working stage set, designing and setting lighting, new special effect (SFX), or new chord voicings for guitar and piano accompaniment in a three-instrument pit. His new home is slowly undergoing a major technology upgrade/infusion. Gordon is adding home automation as he has time and can afford it. In his previous home, Gordon had 8 streaming webcams tied to his security system, motion detectors, lighting control, IR control, web- and network-based touchscreens, multiple automated A/V systems control, weather monitoring systems, crisis and problem notifications, voice command control, system speech, telephone and VoIP integration, and a variety of other integrated capabilities with "smart" system programming and fault tolerance.
Today Gordon enjoys all the technical arts of his areas of expertise - music, recording, theater, electronics, web sites, programming, networking, home automation, and others. He has delivered wide and varied projects for all kinds of businesses and clients that exceeded their expectations, reduced cost and complexity, were easily managed after the fact, and came in under budget. Gordon enjoys being challenged with new and varied projects that allow him to exercise his creative energies.
